If I am to sing for you, I must find my tongue brings together photographs from the artist’s family archive with the stories, memories and histories that have accumulated around them. In the images, the faces of family members are obscured by marigolds, introducing a gesture of concealment that is at once protective and transformative. The series considers how family photographs come to hold histories beyond what they visibly record, and how these histories are carried through relationships, recollection and the everyday acts of remembering.
